Report of the Death of an American Citizen

The American Citizen Services Unit is ready to assist you, as needed, in the event of the death of an American citizen abroad. We can provide information regarding the shipment of remains to the U.S. We can also prepare a Report of Death of an American Citizen Abroad, a document that is acceptable in any jurisdiction in the United States for the settlement of legal, financial and estate matters. In order for us to prepare this document, we request that you visit the American Citizen Services Unit in person during public reception hours and provide the following:

    1) the original death certificate from the Ministry of Interior (Misrad Ha'pnim). The document does not need to be translated into English. And

    2) the U.S. passport of the deceased for proof of citizenship and

    3) the social security card or number of the deceased, if s/he had one.

    4) the deceased's last address in the U.S.,

    5) the place of burial,

    6) the name of person or official who has possession of the deceased's personal effects and

    7) the name and address of next of kin, to whom the Report of Death will be sent.

You may request up to 10 originals at no cost. Processing time is 5 to 10 workdays.
